The Vikings were fierce warriors who wreaked havoc on England with their destructive raids. They were truly a force to be reckoned with.
The Vikings were from a place called Scandinavia, which included Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. They began raiding England for more land, because the land and the conditions in Scandinavia did not allow them to grow many crops. The Vikings also wanted revenge on Charlemagne, because he believed that Christianity should be the only religion in Europe. On top of all that, they had been told that the monasteries in England held great riches, just there for the taking. All this eventually led to the Vikings staging devastating raids on monasteries.
The Vikings had many advantages over the Saxons. First of all, their weapons and armour were stronger than that of the Saxons, which gave them a power advantage. Their longboats were fast and manoeuvrable, allowing them to sail up rivers which other ships couldn't. These rivers were mostly unguarded, giving them the element of surprise. Viking berserkers were warriors who got so worked up that they went on a killing spree, attacking the first enemy within sight. These warriors were extremely destructive and could kill lots of people before eventually being killed themselves. All of this gave the Vikings a huge advantage over the Saxons.
The Vikings were truly a force to be reckoned with, having many factors that allowed them to succeed in their raids on England. They had powerful weapons, fast and manoeuvrable longboats and warriors that dealt heavy blows.
